Vinkeln: Mörkrummet presents Visions Macabre by Iris Landar Lygren
Visions Macabre
In her art collection titled "Visions Macabre", Swedish artist Iris Landar Lygren draws inspiration from contrasts and seeks to highlight the importance of illuminating the dark and grotesque so that we can see light and hope.
As Iris explains, darkness is part of humanity, but is often filtered out along with everything that deviates from the norm. We need outlets for the dark emotions that are part of all humans, so we can act in healthy ways, support each other, and develop creatively. If the deviant, grotesque, or morbid isn’t given space, the dark risks to grow, suppressed, and become a larger part of our bodily reality and mental health.
Iris's artistry is driven by a frustration with moralism and a wish for justice for those outside the norm, and by a desire for a more beautiful society.
